Lieutenant Phil Brown selected Fire Safety Educator of the Year

Lieutenant Phil Brown of the Roswell Fire and Rescue Department was recently selected as Fire Safety Educator of the Year by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.  Lt. Brown was presented with the award on Thursday, October 9, 2003 at the State’s annual awards banquet.  The award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions in the reduction of fire and its consequences by promoting fire safety education.

Lt. Brown, along with the City’s other Assistant Fire Marshals, conducts various educational programs throughout Roswell.  A significant effort is made to present structured programs to the fifth and eighth grades in most of the Fulton County public schools within the area.

The fifth grade teachers at Sweet Apple Elementary in Roswell nominated Lt. Brown for the award.  The teachers recognized his outstanding ability to capture the children’s attention and allegiance to fire safety.  Lt. Brown instructs the children in a manner that makes them want to listen and learn and take the lessons home to their parents.  With these efforts, he promotes the importance of fire safety awareness being shared with the entire family.
