Councilman David Tolleson Receives AADD’s Vital Service Award
Roswell Councilman David Tolleson was honored recently by the Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities (AADD) with its annual Vital Service Award for his efforts to help those living with developmental disabilities. The Awards Committee honored twelve individuals in the metro-Atlanta area who give their time and effort to make the lives of those with developmental disabilities better.
Tolleson said that receiving the award was a great surprise made all the more special by the group presenting it. “The AADD does wonderful work in the metro area. But this award really belongs to the volunteers of Roswell’s Special Populations Task Force and the City staff who help them,” Tolleson said. “They continue to work tirelessly toward their goal of making Roswell the most inclusive, welcoming community in America.”
The City’s Special Populations Task Force has had several successes including its Awareness Fairs, its work with Fulton County to develop a Disability Information and Assistance Line (DIAL), ensuring that older public buildings are made accessible, and seeing that City staff is trained on disability issues.
Tolleson said the Task Force will continue its work to educate our citizens, help those with developmental disabilities, and make Roswell the most inclusive and welcoming community in the country.
“Hubert Humphrey noted that you can tell a lot about a community from the way it treats its children, its seniors, its disabled citizens and those down on their luck,” Tolleson said. “I’m proud that Roswell has a tradition of caring.”
