Roswell Historic and Cultural Affairs presents Vacationland

The Historic and Cultural Affairs Division of the City of Roswell is pleased to be presenting its third visual art exhibit of the 2003/2004 series, Vacationland, featuring the work of Tracy Wagner. The show, which is curated by Susan Bridges of Atlanta, will be presented in the lobby of the Roswell Cultural Arts Center from April 1 through April 30, 2004. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, April 1 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Regular viewing hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10:00AM to 7:00PM.

These paintings reflect America on vacation. “As Americans, we are bombarded with advertisements from the tourist industry: airlines, trains, buses and even the airstream which ultimately influence our decisions about where, how and when we will travel,” states the artist Tracy Wagner. “As the summer months approach, we dream, research our brochures and make our plans for our much needed vacation.”

Wagner graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design where she majored in photography and art history. Her focus has since shifted to mixed media combining photography, paint, graphite, and chalk on wood where she explores pop culture from the 1940s and 1950s. She is greatly influenced by self-taught artists, particularly Henry Darger and Ida Applebroog.

According to G. Morgan Timmis, Historic and Cultural Affairs Manager for the City, “The Historic and Cultural Affairs Division and the Programming Committee of the Roswell Cultural Arts Board have a mission to present fine art that isn’t currently being shown in Roswell galleries. It was important that we bring in a professional curator to assist in mounting the exhibits. Susan Bridges has years of experience and she has been able to help us find artists whose work is outstanding and not regularly seen in Roswell.”
