North Fulton Favorites – Points of Interest Program

Art Exhibit Openings

On the evening of March 1, 2004 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Fulton County and the cities of Alpharetta and Roswell will host the opening reception of the North Fulton Favorites – Points of Interest Program traveling art exhibition at the Mansell House in Alpharetta, Georgia. The exhibition represents the culmination of a community-wide nomination process in which area residents of Roswell, Alpharetta, and unincorporated North Fulton County identified places of beauty or places of historic, architectural, environmental, or cultural significance that are particular to North Fulton County.

Designed in response to the area’s rapid growth over the last several years, the goals of the North Fulton Favorites – Points of Interest Program are to create and maintain a sense of community and place in North Fulton County and to develop an inventory of special places that are unique to North Fulton. Twenty-five places were selected in 2003, the second year of the program, to add to the forty-eight places that were selected in 2002.

Some of the places selected in 2003 include:

  • Matilda’s Cottage, Alpharetta;
  • View from the Dam Overlooking Lake Winward, Alpharetta;
  • Roswell Mill Workers Monument, Roswell;
  • Roswell Visual Arts Center, Roswell;
  • Martin’s Lake in Martin’s Landing, Roswell; and
  • Leita Thompson Park, Roswell.

Visual artists from throughout North Fulton and beyond contributed original artwork for this traveling exhibition that will be displayed at the Mansell House in Alpharetta, March 1st – 12th; The Abernathy Arts Center, April 8th – 30th; and the Roswell Visual Arts Center in Roswell Area Park, 10495 Woodstock Road, May 7th – 25th. Over the succeeding years of the program, sites will be interpreted in a variety of artistic mediums.
