Roswell welcomes new members to Cultural Arts Board

Wendy James and Philip Parker were recently appointed to serve on the City of Roswell’s Cultural Arts Board. The mission of the Cultural Arts Board, in conjunction with the City’s Historic and Cultural Affairs Division, is to enhance the overall quality of life in Roswell by strengthening the community’s cultural environment through support of the arts, preservation of its unique historic resources and facilitation of access for all.

Philip “Phil” Parker is an art and computer technology teacher at Cottage Middle School. The Cottage School is a private school in Roswell that provides an innovative program for middle and high school students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders and mild learning disabilities, combining academic achievement, life skills management, and career preparation. Parker earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Florida State University and attended the Atlanta College of Art.

Wendy James is a Roswell artist and in January 2003, her work was featured in “Connections”, the first visual art exhibit presented by the Historic and Cultural Affairs Division. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in studio art, she has studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the California College of Arts and Crafts. Other experience in the arts includes being a docent for the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and a staff assistant for the Southern Arts Federation. James is a member of the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance and Fulton Arts North. She also served on the organizing committee for last fall’s fundraiser “UpRoAR” which benefited Roswell Arts Renaissance, Inc.

These appointments are for four-years and were made by nomination of Mayor Wood with approval by City Council. The seven-member board also includes Gail Bohannon, Kathy Le Noir, Sharon Moskowitz, Carl Owens, and Dr. Carlyn Romeyn.
