City Proposes Increased Millage Rate
The City of Roswell is proposing an increase in the City’s millage rate for fiscal year 2004-2005 from 5.167 to 6.087 mills. Because of flat revenues and increased operating costs, the proposed tax increase is necessary to cover the City’s operating expenses.
Although no new full-time employee positions are proposed for 2004-2005, operating costs are up $2,181,000 due to increased employee benefits, insurance, water costs and a 2% employee raise. Also, projected costs for maintenance, repair and replacement of capital assets are up an additional $2,900,000.
The typical Roswell tax bill on a $250,000.00 home would increase $7.00 a month or from $490.62 to $575.03 per year. This tax increase will bring in an additional $3.5 million to the City.
Roswell’s proposed property tax rate of 6.087 mills remains among the lowest in metro Atlanta. In comparison, the proposed property tax rate in Alpharetta is 7 mills and in Woodstock is 6.859 mills for fiscal year 2004-2005.
Mayor and Council will hold three public hearings on the proposed budget: June 7 at 7:30 p.m., June 14 at 6:30 p.m., and the final reading and vote on June 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Roswell City Hall.
