Project Update - Riverside Road Reconstruction and Resurfacing
On Monday, July 12, 2004, the City of Roswell will begin rebuilding Riverside Road. The entire road will be rebuilt; however, the project will be conducted in four phases to minimize disruption to traffic flow. The scope of the project is to repair Riverside Road’s failing base and to resurface the road.
- Phase 1 will extend from the intersection of Old Alabama Road/Riverside Road to the intersection of Martin Road/Riverside Road (the southern entrance to Martin’s Landing). This section of Riverside Road will be closed during Phase I construction.
- Phase 2 will be from the intersection of Dogwood Road/Riverside Road to the intersection of Old Alabama Road/Riverside Road. This phase will be constructed under traffic.
- Phase 3 will be from the intersection of Martin Road/Riverside Road (southern entrance) to the intersection of Old Riverside Road/Riverside Road. This section of Riverside Road will closed during Phase 3 construction.
- Phase 4 is from the intersection of Old Riverside Road/Riverside Road to Eves Road (just south of the entrance to the Sentinel on the River subdivision). This section of Riverside Road will be closed during Phase 4 construction.
Heavy traffic delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area during this time. The Roswell Transportation Department is making every effort to make the project and traffic flow as smoothly as possible by posting advance notices and adjusting traffic signal timings. Detour signs will be posted and the Roswell Police Department will be out to support the City’s efforts during the construction.
Riverside Road’s wide shoulder will be continued on the east end of the project which requires the right-of-way to be trimmed back. The vegetation trimming began on Thursday, July 1st and minor traffic delays may be experienced.
Completion of the project is scheduled for Friday, August 20, 2004. It is anticipated that the bulk of the construction will be completed by August 9th when school reopens, weather permitting.
