Auditions to be held for Roswell History Play
One of the premier events of Roswell’s Sesquicentennial Celebration will be the production of a newly commissioned play depicting the history of Roswell. Auditions for the play will be Monday, May 17, 2004 from 7:00PM to 10:00PM at Roswell City Hall, Room 120. “The Whisper of the River” written by award-winning playwright Peter Hardy and co-directed by Phillip DePoy and Lee Nowell will run for three weeks, August 12 through August 29, at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.
Everyone that is interested is encouraged to audition regardless of experience level. Participants of all age groups are needed. Rehearsals for actors selected for the play will begin on Tuesday, July 6. Rehearsals will take place Tuesday through Thursday evenings from 7:00PM to 10:00PM and on Saturdays from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. Not every actor may be required to be present at all rehearsals. The requirements for participation will be distributed at the audition.
The play incorporates early Roswell history up to and including the recent past. The play uses stories collected from current residents and combines them with stories taken from early settlers’ letters and diaries. Live music will also be incorporated.
