Arborist — Job Code ##C415
This position is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the City tree ordinance. Work involves review of development plans and inspection of construction sites for compliance with the code. Work is performed under general supervision of the Zoning Director. Reviews development plans for compliance with the tree ordinance; prepares staff recommendation.
Inspects construction sites for proper installation of tree protection devices and silt fences, any damage to trees, display of permits, and any other ordinance violations; determines if code violations have occurred and what action to take.
Prepares for and testifies in court against persons issued citations or as an expert on tree-related issues.
Explains and provides information on development plans and code violations to the general public and various professionals; conducts meetings with property owners, developers and contractors.
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Horticulture or related field from an accredited college or university. Coursework through the Urban Forestry Institute and the International Society of Arboriculture. Two years of experience as an urban forester or arborist. Possession of a valid State of Georgia driver's license (Class C) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Possession of an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certification. Ability to conduct on-site inspections which may involve exposure to automotive traffic, construction sites and equipment. Exposure to all types of weather conditions.
Salary Range: $37,217 - $55,826
